Before you posted your instructions, I wanted to make one of these. I developed my own technique from your photos - which I believe may be a slightly simpler way to do this. If you want a bigger card, you need bigger paper, but this worked well with 12x12 cardstock:
Mark a square piece of paper into an even one-inch grid with a pencil. If you then cut the grid to look like your assembly diagram, by taking the three corner blocks out of opposite corners of the grid, you can then fold it together from one piece of paper instead of three.
